Opinions of the Advisory Council for European Prosecutors (CCPE)

There are now 14 opinions from CCPE.

The Consultative Council of European Prosecutors (CCPE) is a Council of European Senior Prosecutors, whose role is to promote active implementation of the recommendation of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers to the Member States, No. (2000)19, on the role of the prosecution in the criminal justice system.

Since 2007 the CCPE has drawn up annual opinions on various matters of the prosecution addressed to the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers. The Deputy Prosecutor is a member of the CCPE on behalf of the prosecution in Iceland and attends annual Council meetings.

There are now 14 opinions from CCPE, the following themes of which have been discussed, in this order of numbers, the first of which is from 2007:

1. Ways to improve international cooperation in criminal procedure (2007)

2. Other means of criminal procedure than prosecution (2008)

3. The role of the prosecution outside the area of criminal law (2008)

4. Relationship between judges and prosecutors in a democratic society (2009)

5. Youth prosecution and criminal cases (2010)

6. Relationship between the Prosecutor and Prison and Probation Administration (2011)

7. Financial administration of the prosecution (2012)

8. Relations between the prosecution and the media (2013)

9. European criteria and principles for public prosecutors (2014)

10. The role of the prosecutor in criminal investigations (2015)

11. Quality and effectiveness of the work of the Prosecutor in relation to, inter alia, combating terrorism and serious organised crime (2016)

12. The role of the prosecutor in connection with the rights of victims and witnesses in criminal proceedings (2017)

13. Independence, responsibilities and ethical rules of the prosecuting attorney (2018)

14. The role of the Prosecutor in combating corruption and related economic and financial crimes (2019)

The Director of Public Prosecutions has now translated the opinions in Icelandic, Nos. 1 - 12 , into Icelandic, which are available in Icelandic and English as well as in several other languages . Icelandic translation of opinions Nos. 13 and 14 is expected shortly and will be added to the CCPE website when available.
