Level of alarm to remain the same

The Directorate of Civil Protection has been working to obtain information from the police authorities in the Nordic countries regarding the unmanned aircraft that flew at Kastrup Airport in Copenhagen and Gardemoen Airport in Oslo last night.

The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police also convened the Vástig Committee to review the information available and to assess whether the exposure level needs to be changed.

The conclusion of the meeting was that there is no reason to change the risk level at this time, but the Office will continue to monitor developments closely and review the assessment if there is reason.

In view of the increased threat, the Committee considers it important that the ability to detect unmanned aircraft be significantly strengthened and that the police build up more capacity to respond to such threats.

The Air Safety Committee consists of representatives from ISAVIA, the Icelandic Transport Authority, air carriers and Keflavík International Airport.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Icelandic Coast Guard and special forces, which are responsible for technical law enforcement, which operates drone surveillance and drone defence equipment.
