Vehicle owners who had not registered their vehicle’s mileage by 1 April were charged a late registration fee. The fee will be cancelled if the vehicle is taken to an inspection station before the end of April.

According to the Act on the kilometer fee, vehicle owners must register the mileage on the odometer once a year. If the mileage was not registered by 1 April 2026, it must be recorded at an authorized vehicle inspection station. A 20,000 ISK late registration fee is applied at the same time.

Fee cancelled if mileage is registered within 30 days

If no registration was made by 1 April, the vehicle must be taken to an inspection station to have the mileage recorded. The late registration fee will be cancelled if this is done within 30 days from the date the fee was imposed.

If you registered on 1 April

Vehicle owners who registered their mileage on 1 April but still received a late registration fee will have the fee cancelled and do not need to take their vehicle to an inspection station.
