The results of the survey Stofnun ársins 2024 (Institution of the Year), which provides important information on the work environment in the workplace and comparisons with other public institutions, were published last week. About 35,000 people responded to the survey.

We are pleased to report that the Healthcare Institution of North Iceland (HSN) rose in all categories between years, as the survey assesses management, morale, salary, working conditions, flexibility, independence, the image of an institution, satisfaction and pride, and equality. HSN now ranks 15-18 in the category of large institutions, from 35-36 last year. The most rising categories are management, image, and satisfaction and pride.

“At HSN we have recently worked systematically to improve our management and work environment. We have an ambitious management education and support for managers. We conduct regular employee surveys and use them systematically for improvement. In addition, HSN staff worked on the institution’s strategy for the next few years, which brought important and diverse views and ideas to the table on how we can improve service to residents, working conditions and job satisfaction,” says Hildur Ösp Gylfadóttir, Human Resources Manager.

“We have also increased our visibility and increased the number of news stories about our staff and the important tasks they perform at HSN’s various facilities. The new premises of HSN’s healthcare in Akureyri have been crucial for the facilities of some of the staff as well as the clients. We have been taking steps to implement teamwork and a health-promoting workplace and we want to take more safe steps there,” says Jón Helgi Björnsson, CEO of HSN.

Hildur Ösp and Jón Helgi agree that HSN is first and foremost lucky with its staff. Everywhere you look, there are powerful and positive people who work with integrity, which gives us a better place to work. For that, we are very grateful.

We are nowhere near stopped and will do our best to continue to develop our work with our good staff, but we all have a responsibility to create and maintain a good workplace culture and good morale.

The Institution of the Year is a collaboration between Sameyki - Union of public servants, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, the City of Reykjavík and other public institutions and workplaces around the country.
