Drone ban over Þingvellir due to a concert
The Police Commissioner of South Iceland has issued a ban on drones and other remotely piloted aircraft at Þingvellir during the Bergmál Music Festival on 20 June 2026.

The area covered by the restriction is marked in red on the map.
The drone flight ban will be in effect from 08:00 on Saturday, 20 June 2026, until 03:00 on Sunday, 21 June 2026.
All drone operations within this area are prohibited unless specifically authorised by the Police Commissioner of South Iceland.
Applications for exemptions must be submitted to the Police Commissioner of South Iceland via email at: sudurland@logreglan.is
The following information must be provided:
Purpose of the drone operation
Name of the remote pilot or responsible person
Remote Pilot Operator Registration Number issued by the Icelandic Transport Authority (Operator ID)
Telephone number and email address
Drone make and model
Drone registration identifier (flight controller serial number / ID number)
Proposed flight time(s) and operating altitude
Applications for exemptions must be received no later than 12:00 (noon) on Friday, 19 June 2026.
The Police will operate drone teams to conduct law enforcement and aerial surveillance activities.
Active monitoring of unauthorised drone operations will be carried out. Remote pilots found to be operating drones unlawfully may have their drone seized and may be subject to a fine.
The drone flight restriction is imposed pursuant to Article 3(d) of Regulation No. 1360/2024.
