Digital Iceland on the Move
A unique story that captures attention

The story of Digital Iceland and the success that has been achieved is attracting ever-increasing attention abroad. Our journey is unique in many ways, and we are regularly asked to tell our story.
An eventful spring
23–25 March, Digital Iceland took part in panel discussions at the Innovation conference organised by the Global Government Forum. Our representatives discussed how to maintain a leadership culture in innovation that supports the public sector in experimenting and learning, as well as how to disseminate innovation within the public sector. Lively discussions arose in both panels, and interesting questions were asked from the audience.
5–6 May, Digital Iceland delivered the closing speech at the Nordic Edge Expo innovation conference in Stavanger, Norway. It brings together leaders, entrepreneurs and investors to discuss ways to transform societies to make them more sustainable, resilient and inclusive. The theme of this year's conference was Hope in Action.
26–27 May, the journey continued to Skövde in Sweden, where the innovation conference Sveriges Innovationsriksdag took place. There, Digital Iceland delivered the opening speech. The conference brought together Sweden's innovation community, and the topic was innovation in the grand scheme of things.
Our focus
The core of the message was to tell the story of how building a standardised and scalable technological infrastructure, where the user is always at the forefront, makes the nation well-equipped to respond quickly to incidents that arise. A clear example of this is the response when a volcanic eruption threatened Grindavík. In a very short time, it was possible to provide information to the residents of Grindavík on special information pages, open applications for access to the town, grants for rent and finally applications for the purchase of housing.
Digital Iceland also spoke about our policy and methods for public procurement and about the framework agreement for software development, a method that is attracting attention in many places.
