112 Day
On 11 February each year, the Icelandic emergency hotline celebrates 112 Day, to remind all citizens of the emergency number.

HSN employs a large number of paramedics and other emergency responders who play important roles in emergency services.
The paramedics at HSN are well trained and strong and the tasks are often very demanding. Most of the paramedics at HSN are part-time, are often on duty and need to be able to respond quickly. It is therefore necessary to have a good support at home.
The ambulance service is one of the main components of a large chain of responses. The teams are closely coordinated, often with the first responders, such as rescue teams, firefighters and police. Together, these groups form one large whole.
Paramedics are often the first contact of patients in difficult situations with the healthcare system and professional first aid is crucial when accidents or emergency illness occurs.
Eysteinn Heiðar Kristjánsson, a paramedic in Húsavík, says that the conditions for the paramedics are often surreal: “You might be celebrating your kid's birthday, you get a call and a short time later you’re on a boat due to a marine accident or on a snowmobile due to an avalanche. In a small community, we’re there at the most joyful times for people, but also at the most sad times.”
We thank our paramedics and other responders for their invaluable work and congratulate them on their day.
