Grant application to the Lifesaving Fund
General rules for the examination of grant applications
The Lifesaving Fund only considers grant applications received by the Fund. Grants may only be awarded if the application demonstrates that major direct damage is caused by natural disasters:
of taxable real estate as defined by law, and fences, tubes and electricity lines connected with agriculture
of hay used in agricultural production
due to crop failures caused by exceptional cold, drought, drought and cold
The sponsor reviews the submitted documentation and assesses whether it is complete.
If the applicant fails to submit sufficient documentation to take a position on the application, the sponsor shall request it and grant a reasonable period of time for its response.
If the applicant fails to comply with this request, the final deadline for the submission of documents is informed and the case is closed by the sponsor after that time, if the information has not been received.
If a sponsor considers it necessary, an assessment of the extent of damage is obtained from an expert body, e.g. from an equipment connection, a consultant or another expert.
In assessing damage, the damage shall be assessed as the same or as nearly as it was before the damage event. The condition and the actual value of the damage, when the damage occurred, shall thus be taken into account.
In case of losses due to crop failure, the average harvest used for the last three years shall be taken into account. There is no difference between the applicant's own work and the purchased work effort.
If the application is approved in part or in full, the applicant is informed of the conditions set by the board for awarding the grant. Settlement shall take place when the conditions for granting a grant have been met.
The applicant always bears the cost of ISK 500,000 in each claim.
A decision by the board is final at the administrative level and the revocation and reopening of a decision is subject to the Administrative Procedures Act.
