General on airworthiness

Oversight of airworthiness matters mainly consists of audits and certification of aircraft maintenance organizations and maintenance management of air carriers and private individuals. In this context, the Icelandic Transport Authority is maintains the Icelandic aircraft register, which is the legal registration of the ownership of aircraft owned by Icelandic parties.

Main airworthiness tasks;

  • The licensing and oversight of aircraft maintenance organisations (Part 145), as well as of Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisations (CAMO).

  • Technical aircraft inspections.

  • An assessment of airworthiness, i.e. the issue and renewal of certificates of airworthiness establishing that an aircraft is airworthy upon the completion of specified requirements.

  • Evaluation of the education, training and certification of aircraft mechanics.

  • Participation with f EASA in the coordination and implementation of regulations, as well as various communications with the Agency on airworthiness matters and the activities of licensees.
