<p>Graduate studies in law are focused on interactive teaching methods, harnessing the benefits of active discussion between student and instructor.</p>

</ul><h4>What is the study about?</h4><p>This is a two-year theoretical and practical programme at the University of Iceland Faculty of Law.</p>
<p>The Master's programme allows students to build on the basic knowledge they acquired during the BA programme, focusing on specialised areas of law, depending on the student’s own interests.</p>
<h4>Programme structure</h4>
<p>The programme is 120 ECTS and is organised as two years of full-time study.</p>
<p>The programme is made up of:</p>
<ul>
<li>Courses, 90 ECTS</li>
<li>Final thesis, 30 ECTS.</li>
</ul>
<p>Students have a wide range of elective courses to choose from, allowing them to tailor the programme to suit their own interests.</p>
<h4>Organisation of teaching</h4>
<p>Significant emphasis is placed on interactive teaching methods, in order to harness the benefits of active discussion between student and instructor.</p>
<p>Courses are taught in Icelandic or English. Textbooks are in Icelandic, Nordic languages, English or other languages.</p>
<h4>Main objectives</h4>
<p>The programme aims to provide students with academic skills and legal training , giving them opportunities to expand and deepen their knowledge of specific areas of law. After graduating, students will be equipped to take on positions of responsibility, e.g. key roles in the Icelandic judicial system and research positions within academia. Students will also develop academic independence and the ability to present impartial and independent legal conclusions based on recognised legal methodology.</p>
<h4>Other</h4>
<p>Completing a Master's degree in law qualifies you to work as a lawyer. To work as a lawyer, you must have completed a Master's degree in law or an equivalent qualification including specific courses and examinations. Please note that the professional title of ‘lawyer’ is not legally protected.</p>

<p>Í framhaldsnámi í lögfræði er lögð rík áhersla á gagnvirka kennsluhætti þar sem máttur virkrar samræðu milli kennara og nemanda er nýttur til hins ýtrasta.</p>
<p>Í Lagadeild er spennandi og skemmtilegt umhverfi fyrir nemendur og kennara þar sem kennslan er nútímaleg og fjölbreytt og tekur mið af því besta sem gerist.</p><h4>Er námið fyrir þig?</h4><ul>

</ul><h4>Um hvað snýst námið?</h4><p>Meistaranám í lögfræði er tveggja ára fræðilegt og rannsóknatengt framhaldsnám&nbsp;við Lagadeild Háskóla Íslands.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Í meistaranáminu gefst&nbsp;nemendum kostur á því að byggja ofan a&nbsp;þekkingargrunn&nbsp;sinn&nbsp;úr BA náminu&nbsp;með því að leggja áherslu á&nbsp;sérhæfðari réttarsvið, allt eftir áhugasviði hvers og eins</p>
<h4>Uppbygging&nbsp;náms</h4>
<p>Námið er 120 einingar og er sett upp sem fullt nám til tveggja&nbsp;ára.</p>
<p>Námið skiptist í:</p>

<li>Námskeið, 90&nbsp;einingar&nbsp;</li>
<li>Lokaritgerð,&nbsp;30 einingar</li>
</ul>
<p>Nemendur hafa úr fjölda valnámskeiða að velja og&nbsp;aðlaga því&nbsp;námið algjörlega að sínu áhugasviði.</p>
<h4>Fyrirkomulag kennslu</h4>
<p>Rík áhersla er á gagnvirka kennsluhætti þar sem máttur virkrar samræðu milli kennara og nemanda er nýttur til hins ýtrasta.</p>
<p>Námskeið eru kennd&nbsp;á íslensku eða ensku. Kennslubækur eru á íslensku, Norðurlandatungumálum, ensku og öðrum tungumálum</p>

<h4>Meginmarkmið</h4>
<p>Markmið meistaranáms í lögfræði er að nemendur öðlist fræðilega færni og þjálfun í lögfræði og að þeim gefist kostur á að dýpka og auka þekkingu sína á ákveðnum sviðum lögfræðinnar, sem gerir þá hæfa til þess að gegna ábyrgðarstörfum í þjóðfélaginu, s.s. lykilstörfum í íslenska réttarkerfinu og vísindastörfum innan háskólasamfélagsins. Jafnframt er það markmið að nemendur öðlist fræðilegt sjálfstæði og geti á óvilhallan hátt sett fram sjálfstæðar lögfræðilegar niðurstöður á grundvelli viðurkenndra aðferða lögfræðinnar.&nbsp;</p>
<h4>Annað</h4>
<p>Meistarapróf í lögfræði veitir réttindi til þess að starfa sem lögfræðingur. Meistarapróf eða sambærilegt próf í lögfræði er skilyrði þess að starfa sem lögmaður, að undangengnu sérstöku námskeiði og prófum.&nbsp;Þess skal þó getið að starfsheitið lögfræðingur er ekki lögverndað.</p>
<p>Námið veitir aðgang að frekara framhaldsnámi á háskólastigi.</p>
