This programme prepares students to teach IT and communications in Icelandic compulsory schools. The programme is open to anyone who has completed a BEd degree in general teacher education specialising in IT teaching, or a BA/BS degree in a related subject. Certified compulsory school teachers may apply for the programme regardless of specialisation in previous studies.

What is the study about?
This is an academic, project-based programme that focuses on communication, teamwork, development, learning communities and critical discussion.
Students learn about digital technologies and engage in innovative applications of digital tools and solutions. Students are expected to show initiative, work independently and make their work accessible by publishing it in various channels.
Emphasis is also placed on the pedagogy of IT and communications education, as well as development work. Students also have opportunities to strengthen their knowledge in these subjects according to their own interests.
Programme structure
The programme is 120 ECTS and is organised as two years of full-time study or up to four years of part-time study.
Specialisations
Students choose between the following specialisations based on their academic background:
IT and communications - five year teacher education
General teacher education following BA/BS degree
IT and communications teaching for licensed teachers
It is important to choose the correct specialisation depending on your academic background.

Both face-to-face and distance learning is used.
Main objectives
Students will improve their knowledge and skills in IT, communications and related pedagogy, leaving them better equipped to work as IT and communications teachers.
Students acquire knowledge and understanding of the impact of IT on schools and education, culture and lifestyles. They build skills in using the internet and digital media in teaching and the creation of learning materials.

Completing this programme qualifies you to apply for a teaching licence.
Completing the programme may allow a student to apply for doctoral studies
