This is a two-year graduate programme in industrial engineering at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. The programme is 120 ECTS and confers an MS degree.

Graduates from any of the Faculty's MS engineering programmes can apply to use the legally protected title of engineer.

People are always needed to design new procedures or improve existing procedures; industrial engineers are in high demand for this kind of work.

Students often work on research projects with industry partners and are given the opportunity to conduct independent research under the guidance of a supervisor.

Programme structure

The programme is 120 ECTS and is organised as two years of full-time study.

The programme is made up of:

  • Courses, 60 - 90 ECTS

  • Research project, 30 - 60 ECTS

Each student's individual study plan is designed in consultation with the administrative supervisor.

Organisation of teaching

This programme is generally taught in English and textbooks are in English.

The Master's thesis may be theoretical or practical; in the latter case, the student will collaborate on the project with industry partners. There are various funding options available.

Main objectives

Students should acquire the knowledge and skills required to analyse and resolve complex problems in various specialist areas of industrial engineering. Students should demonstrate independent and creative thinking in their approach to problems and be able to analyse issues to produce clear conclusions.

Other

After completing the Master's degree in mechanical engineering, students can apply for the right to use the professional title engineer within Iceland. This professional title is legally protected in Iceland.

Completing a Master's degree in industrial engineering allows you to apply for doctoral studies.
