Icelandic citizens
with a legal domicile in Iceland
having reached the age of 18 on election day
Icelandic citizens living abroad
An Icelandic citizen who has had a legal domicile in Iceland retains his/her voting right for 16 years from the time he/she moves the legal domicile from the country.
After that time, he/she needs to apply to be reinstated on to the Election Registerto Registers Iceland before 1 December 2023. If the applicant meets the conditions, he/she will be entered on to the Election Register for the next four years thereafter. If the application was not filed before the first of December of last year, those who have had a legal domicile abroad for more than 16 years cannot vote in the presidential election.
Others
Foreign citizens do not have the right to vote in the presidential election and therefore cannot vote. (Except Danish citizens domiciled in Iceland on 6 March 1946 or for some time in the last 10 years before that date).
