The purpose of NHO24 is to inspire public purchasing firms and encourage the systematic use of AI solutions to promote public service.

Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir

Opening Address by the Minister of Universities, Industry and Innovation

Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir has served as Minister of Universities, Industry and Innovation since November 2021. Áslaug is a strong advocate for technological development and innovation in Iceland and has worked on the development of an action plan in artificial intelligence as well as other policies related to government data architecture. In her opening address, she will discuss the importance of these factors and how they can contribute to improved service and increased efficiency in the administration.

Niall McDonagh

Google Director Public Sector Google Cloud EMEA

Niall McDonagh is the Director of Public Sector at Google Cloud EMEA. Prior to joining Google, Niall worked for over sixteen years at Microsoft, where he oversaw cloud solutions for the public sector, with a particular focus on healthcare and education. He has a deep knowledge and understanding of the importance of artificial intelligence for transformation and innovation in public services, which will be the focus of his talks at the conference.

Oliver Desquesses

Microsoft GM Public Sector, Western Europe

Oliver Desquesses is a senior manager for the public sector at Microsoft in western Europe. Prior to joining Microsoft, Oliver served as head of the public sector for EMEA at Google Cloud, where he led the growth strategy for cloud solutions in the health and education sectors. He has also overseen the public sector in southern Europe, the Middle East and Benelux countries for Google. Oliver will focus on how integration of AI with cloud solutions can make significant progress in the service of the public.

Fredric Wall

Nvidia Senior Director for Enterprise AI in EMEA

Fredric Wall is Senior Director of Enterprise AI for the EMEA region at NVIDIA, where he leads the business development of the company. Prior to his current role, Fredric was Sales Manager for South-EMEA, where he worked with regional teams for innovation, knowledge and integration into large markets, and also managed corporate solutions in the Nordic countries and Benelux countries. Fredric will focus on building a "computed" infrastructure to support the deployment of AI solutions. He will also provide insight into how institutions can use advanced computing and data centres to drive improvements and efficiency in public services.

The cooperation between Icelandic municipalities in digital transformation has been formal since 2020 and led by the Association of Icelandic Municipalities. The main focus has been on increasing digital competence, user-friendly services to residents, modern technical infrastructure and cooperation with the state.

The municipalities have worked closely together and shared their knowledge and solutions. The municipalities have also set a policy in the cooperation and in cooperation with the state on harmonized digital services and the utilization of service solutions on Ísland.is.

Digital building permits are a new user interface for application for building permits and their processing and are intended to coordinate procedures across municipalities. The project promotes efficient and transparent administration and improves the quality of construction, safety, monitoring and traceability. The project is coordinated with the municipal action plan on digital transformation.

The Digital Group has led the digital transformation in Mosfellsbær in the past year. The Group sees the glass always batting and respects people and projects. The Group flourishes in innovation and change.

In the first year a number of digital projects were implemented, as well as changing the procedures and getting people to use the technology.

Artificial intelligence solutions for digital municipalities

A digital transformation team at the Icelandic Municipalities Association has led the implementation of two artificial intelligence solutions for municipalities that both use the ChatGPT technology. One solution for the municipalities that can be used by residents and the other solution for the relationship that can be used by municipal staff.

Digital libraries

Ingimar Þór Friðriksson Head of IT department Kópavogur

A new solution for libraries will be introduced whereby loan recipients can pay daily fines through a special payment portal, purchase library cards and download electronic cards themselves, without the involvement of library employees. It is a project that Kópavogur has led in cooperation with the National Library System and with the involvement of other interested municipalities.

The payment portal is already available on the website of Kópavogur library and is also installed with increased functionality on the library’s touch screens. The process of the project and the next steps will be discussed. The way other libraries in Iceland can implement the solution in a simple and efficient way will be introduced.
