Work in Progress

Use Work in Progress when costs relating to an asset or project accumulate over a longer period and more than one invoice is linked to the project. Examples of work in progress include:

• construction projects

• fit-outs and furnishings

• specialist vehicle modifications

• software development

• website development

Posting invoices

Invoices relating to work in progress are generally posted to the appropriate expense category using posting code 22. Only expense categories defined in the Work in Progress category register may be used. When posting code 22 is used, the cost is automatically processed and transferred to:

• 18011, or

• 18012

The category selected depends on the nature of the cost. Important

• Use Work in Progress when costs for the same project accumulate over time.

• Use only the expense categories authorised for Work in Progress.

• Posting code 22 automatically transfers the cost to the correct category code.
