5th January 2026

The Financial Management Authority of Iceland (Fjársýslan) took part in the Nordic Innovation Ecosystem Pre-Summit in Helsinki in November. Organized by Nordic Innovation, Business Finland, SISP and Startup Estonia, the event assembled representatives from the New Nordics to discuss the future of a shared Nordic innovation ecosystem. A recent synthesis by Ramboll Management Consulting highlights that the next phase of Nordic cooperation calls for stronger coordination and clearer implementation frameworks.

The report underscores that the Nordic countries are built on strong foundations in research, human capital, digital infrastructure, financing, and trust. However, fragmented systems and a lack of aligned implementation mechanisms continue to limit the full realization of these strengths. Fjársýslan supports this analysis and emphasizes the importance of placing greater focus on coordination in areas such as policy support, investment, and public procurement related to innovation.

As a central institution in public finance and procurement, Fjársýslan holds both a mandate and the capability to contribute to and help steer such developments on behalf of the Icelandic public sector. The Authority’s participation in the Nordic Innovation Ecosystem Pre-Summit forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen Iceland’s position within Nordic innovation cooperation and to support the effective implementation of joint innovation initiatives across the public sector.
