Safer Internet Day 2026

10th February 2026

Safer Internet Day is celebrated today, 10 February.

Today, the 23rd Safer Internet Day is celebrated in over 160 countries. The theme of the day is “Together for a Better Internet”, while the theme for 2026 is “Smart Technology, Safe Decisions – Safe and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence”, and the nations of the world will host a diverse program.

In Iceland, the day is organized by Netvís, a center for social cyber safety and media literacy, which is part of the Media Commission. Netvís’s role is to support the European Union’s Better Internet for Kids policy.

On the occasion of the day, Netvís hosted an open online parents’ meeting, between 12-13, and then a symposium will take place in the University of Iceland’s Hall at 15:00 under the title Social Media and Smartphone Use by Children and Young People.

The Data Protection Authority would also like to point out the newly published educational material Netvís called The Parental Toolbox, which contains summaries of social media, family settings, security and reporting channels. More information about Safer Internet Day can be found at saferinternetday.org.
