The Infrastructure Fund has opened the submission of applications for the 2026 funding year
12th September 2025
The role of the Infrastructure Fund is to support the development of research infrastructure in Iceland. The application deadline is 6 November 2025 at 15:00.
The Infrastructure Fund provides grants for the acquisition and development of equipment, databases, software, and other resources that are considered important for the advancement of research. Infrastructure projects included in the Roadmap for Research Infrastructures are normally given priority when awarding grants.
The Infrastructure Fund makes allocations based on its allocation policy, taking into account the following points:
The infrastructure must be important for the advancement of research in Iceland and for the research activities of the applicants.
Investment in infrastructure should create new research opportunities and/or be linked to projects supported by the Icelandic Research Fund, Strategic Research and Development Programmes, or other competitive public funding schemes.
There should be cooperation in the use of the infrastructure, either between institutions or between institutions and companies.
Cost and funding estimates must be realistic.
The infrastructure should enhance opportunities for education and training in the relevant fields of science.
Infrastructure established with support from the Fund shall, as far as possible, be made accessible to other research groups, and the Fund shall be informed of how such access will be provided.
Applicants should carefully review the Fund’s rules in the Handbook for Grant year 2026 before submitting an application.
