About the LIFE Programme

LIFE is the European Union’s funding programme for the environment and climate action. Its objectives include:

• protecting nature and biodiversity in Europe and reversing the degradation of ecosystems,

• accelerating the clean energy transition by promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy,

• reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening resilience to climate change and raising awareness of climate action,

• supporting the transition to a circular economy through new technologies and solutions,

• protecting, restoring and improving the environment and thereby contributing to a better quality of life.

LIFE projects are intended to develop, demonstrate and scale up innovative solutions to environmental and climate challenges. The programme places particular emphasis on ensuring that successful solutions and knowledge are applied more widely, encourage behavioural change, and support the implementation of EU policies, strategies and legislation.

Projects should also help create the conditions for successful solutions to be replicated and implemented on a larger scale.
