Course on the preparation of land for forestry

The Icelandic Agricultural University will conduct a forestry land preparation seminar on March 29th in Hvanneyri, presented by forestry expert Valdimar Reynisson.

  • This course will cover various land types and their key characteristics, including fertility, moisture content, species suitability, and appropriate tillage methods.

  • Land preparation for forestry will be analysed across diverse contexts, considering objectives, potential benefits, and drawbacks.

  • We will explore land preparation aspects such as reclamation needs, techniques, fertiliser application, and more.

  • Various tillage methods will be detailed, with advantages and disadvantages evaluated.

  • Forest road design principles and methodologies will also be addressed.

A field trip to a local site will allow for on-site examination of at least two tillage methods. Appropriate attire for the weather conditions is required.

Forester Valdimar Reynisson, a former forestry consultant with the Icelandic Forest Service, will be instructing the course. Mr. Reynisson possesses extensive forestry experience, holding a degree in Forest and Environment from the State Gardening School (1990), a BS in Forestry from the Agricultural University of Iceland (2007), and a Master's degree in Forest Management from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU, 2011). His career encompasses diverse forestry roles, including mechanic, forest manager, forester, contractor, and consultant.
