Vignir Named Executive Director of Medical Services at HSU

Guðmundur Vignir Sigurðsson assumes the position of Executive Director of Medical Services at the South Iceland Healthcare Institution (HSU) effective 1 September. In addition, he will concurrently serve as Executive Director of the Hospital Services Division.

Vignir graduated with a medical degree from the University of Iceland in 2011. He subsequently completed his specialist training in paediatrics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, and earned a PhD from the University of Gothenburg in 2021.Vignir returned to Iceland in 2021, settling in his hometown of Hveragerði, where he began working as a paediatrician at the South Iceland Healthcare Institution (HSU).Over the past several years, Vignir has served as Head of Paediatrics at HSU, leading the professional development of children's lifestyle clinics within HSU primary healthcare centres. He has also led the research project Kraftmiklir krakkar, a lifestyle intervention programme for children and their guardians in communities across South Iceland.

I am therefore very excited to continue working with them in my new role as Executive Director of Medical Services and to help further strengthen and develop high-quality healthcare services that we can all be proud of.”

As we wish Vignir every success in his new position, we would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Sigurður Böðvarsson, the outgoing Executive Director of Medical Services, for his outstanding and important contribution to HSU. His role in the development and advancement of medical services has been of great value to the organisation. We are particularly pleased that his expertise, knowledge, and experience will continue to benefit HSU in the years ahead.Sigurður will continue to play a key role in the development of healthcare services at HSU as Head of Oncology.
