News

Today, the Healthcare Institution of South Iceland and Hveragerði have concluded an agreement with Ás nursing home on integrated home care for residents in Hveragerði from September 1st.

The project is an experimental project based on the Action Plan Gott að eldast, which is a collaboration between the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing and the Ministry of Health. Ás will thus provide home nursing and social home support to Hveragerði residents 60 years of age and older who apply for and receive approved such services. In the past, Ás has operated daycare centres and from there, Hveragerði residents who have requested have been sent home with food.

Díana Óskarsdóttir commented on the cooperation;

“With this agreement we are taking a big step in the service of senior citizens in Hveragerði. We are breaking down a wall between healthcare and social services with a comprehensive vision of the needs of each individual. We know that the introduction of a new system presents challenges, but above all it is an exciting opportunity to do even better.”

It adds;

“I am very confident that this journey will be successful because with increased cooperation we are better able to provide better comprehensive services and thus foster higher quality of life for our citizens. Because in the bottom line we all want to enjoy our senior year as best as possible with safety, dignity and good support.”

Elísabet Rán Óskarsdóttir, project manager at HSU has led the project at the institution in the past year and has a comment on the process;

“This year has been both a pleasure and a learning year. It has been an honor to be able to take part in this important project and to contribute to the development of comprehensive solutions that integrate social and health care for older people. It will be a real pleasure to grow up in Hveragerði”
