New Emergency Care Unit Opens at the Selfoss Emergency Department

Today, a new emergency care unit was formally inaugurated at HSU’s Emergency Department in Selfoss, together with improved access facilities for ambulances. The opening marks the completion of extensive renovation and upgrade works at the Emergency Department, aimed at strengthening emergency services and enhancing facilities for both patients and staff.

With these changes, facilities for both patients and staff have been significantly improved, while access to the Emergency Department for ambulance personnel is now more efficient and safer. The new facilities create better conditions for providing safe, professional, and high-quality care around the clock.
“This opening marks an important step in the continued development of healthcare services in South Iceland. Behind every project of this kind stands a dedicated team of professionals who carry out demanding work 24 hours a day. The new facilities are an important recognition of their efforts and provide better conditions for meeting the needs of the community,” said Díana Óskarsdóttir, CEO of HSU, at the opening ceremony.
Díana further noted that the improved facilities for patients, staff, and ambulance crews strengthen HSU’s capacity to deliver safe and efficient emergency care for residents of the region as well as the many visitors who travel to South Iceland.
