Minister of Health Alma D. Möller has secured a budget of over ISK 140 million for the Healthcare Institution of South Iceland (HSU) to purchase a new CT scanner. The new device will have a significant impact on patient services, especially in connection with the diagnosis and treatment of acute cases, says the HSU director, Díana Óskarsdóttir.
With this funding, HSU can participate in the current tender, and it is hoped that the device can be purchased and installed in the coming months. The device replaces older equipment and is a significant technical upgrade. Development of CT technology has been rapid in recent years and the latest devices reduce the radiation exposure to patients, as well as enabling research to be conducted more quickly and with greater accuracy. “This is a very welcome upgrade to key equipment that is crucial for patient safety, diagnosis and treatment,” says Díana.
