HSU Home Nursing Services in Selfoss Receive More Than ISK 6.7 Million in Donations

17th July 2026

ISK 6,732,729 was raised during a charity match between Selfoss and Árborg in the Round of 16 of the Gatorade Cup football tournament last week. This morning, Aron Fannar Birgisson, a Selfoss player, and Þorsteinn Daníel Þorsteinsson, an Árborg player, formally presented the proceeds to the Home Nursing Service of Heilbrigðisstofnun Suðurlands in Selfoss

The match held special significance as Helga Guðmundsdóttir, the mother of Selfoss player Aron Fannar Birgisson, passed away at the beginning of last week. At Helga’s request, all proceeds from the match were donated to the HSU Home Nursing Service in Selfoss, a service she herself relied on during her illness.

Receiving the donation on behalf of HSU were Margrét Björk Ólafsdóttir, Head of Nursing at the HSU Primary Care Center in Selfoss, and Anna Margrét Magnúsdóttir, Assistant Head of Nursing at the same facility.

“The Home Nursing Service at HSU Selfoss would like to thank Helga Guðmundsdóttir, her family, and everyone who contributed to the charity match between Selfoss and Árborg on July 8, 2026. We are deeply honored that they chose to donate the proceeds to our service, and we are overwhelmed by the amount that was raised, as well as by the tremendous support shown by the community. This is a significant recognition of the important work we do, and the contribution will further strengthen our service through the purchase of equipment and medical supplies. On behalf of the Home Nursing Service, we say a heartfelt THANK YOU.”

According to Díana Óskarsdóttir, Chief Executive Officer of HSU, the donation will be invaluable to the service.

“The tremendous support shown to the HSU Home Nursing Service is, above all, a recognition of the outstanding work carried out every day by our home nursing staff with dedication and compassion. We are extremely proud of our Home Nursing Service, which provides professional and personalized healthcare in people’s homes, often during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives.

Our thoughts are with Helga’s family and loved ones, and we extend our deepest sympathies to them.”
