HSU in Vestmannaeyjar // Hraunbúðir
We visited the Hraunbúðir nursing home the other day and took some pictures of the staff there. Hraunbúðir belongs to HSU's operations in Vestmannaeyjar (Eyjar) and employs seventy people. The Health Institute of South Iceland (HSU) is one of the largest and most dynamic workplaces in Vestmannaeyri, with around 200 employees in 115 full-time positions. About 4,600 people currently live in Eyjar. The department manager of Hraunbúðir is Una Sigríður Ásmundsdóttir.
35 SPACES
Hraunbúðir has 31 nursing rooms and 4 residential dormitories. The staff consists of nurses, paramedics, staff in care, pantry, cleaning, and laundry. A doctor visits the home at least once a week. There is also easy access to more doctors at HSU in Eyjar on duty at the health care. The home has an activity representative and a physical education teacher. A hairdresser and a podiatrist also visit the home every other week, as does a priest.
PERSONAL NURSING
A wide variety of activities take place at the nursing home, and various types of volunteer work are a valuable part of that work. At Hraunbúðir, individualized care is provided where a nurse, paramedics, and general staff supervise each person and strive to fulfill their physical, mental, and social needs in cooperation with their relatives and other department staff. Hraunbúðir strives to help and strengthen individuals in their activities in daily life.
850 JOBS AT HSU
It is worth noting that the activities of the Health Institute of South Iceland are very broad, as its district covers the whole of the South, out to the islands and then all the way east to Höfn in Hornafjörður. HSU's staff is around 850, but full-time positions are in total about 500. HSU runs 2 hospital wards and 2 nursing wards, 9 health clinics, 4 imaging and research departments as well as extensive ambulance transport in the district.
