About the District Prosecutor
The District Prosecutor is one of the holders of prosecution power in Iceland and is responsible for the police commission in its field of competence and has the status and general powers of the police commissioner.
District Prosecutor investigate and bring criminal proceedings in Iceland, for offences which are not subject to the other holders of prosecution powers according to lögum um meðferð sakamála and lögreglulögum.
The District prosecutor appoints district attorney, deputy district prosecutor indefinitely and prosecutor for five years.
The District Prosecutor appoints, appoints or appoints other staff members to his office such as a superintendent, deputy superintendent, police officer, assistant prosecutor, prosecutor, experts and staff working in support services.
