The waiting times for dispute cases at the Family Division of the District Commissioner of the Capital Area are as follows:
The information below applies to cases where one party submits a claim and requests a review, ruling, or, where applicable, mediation.
There is no waiting time for processing cases where there is an agreement, such as in the case of divorces, separations, confirmations of parental agreements regarding child support, residence, custody, etc.

Daily Penalty Cases
Requests for the imposition of daily penalties are reviewed upon receipt.

Visitation - Custody - Residence
Cases submitted before November 4, 2025 have been assigned to a legal representative.

Child Support - Special Contribution - Educational Contribution
Cases submitted before February 23, 2026 have been assigned to a legal representative.

Cases Referred to Mediation
Cases referred to mediation before January 23, 2026 have been reviewed by mediators.

Adoption Cases - From Icelandic Adoption
Cases from Icelandic Adoption are reviewed upon receipt.

Adoption Cases - Other
Cases submitted before September 10, 2025 have been reviewed.
