Digital application for a lottery licence

15th February 2023

It is now possible to complete an application for a lottery license in digital form.

Lottery

Generally, a licence from the District Commissioner is required to operate a lottery, except when the law stipulates otherwise. The most common types of lotteries include ticket lotteries, scratch-ticket lotteries, bingo and tomboys.

The District Commissioner of the Southern Region grants licences for lotteries nationwide if the sales value of tickets issued exceeds 2 million ISK, while licensing for lotteries below this amount shall be granted by the District Commissioner in each district.

Further information on the conditions, application and supporting documents can be found on Ísland.is.
