Digital driving study book

19th December 2022

A major milestone in digitising driving learning is now being achieved with the activation of the digital driving study book by the Icelandic Transportation Authority.

With this stage, driving instructors will have the opportunity to confirm practical driving times for general driving rights electronically through Iceland.is. Therefore, in the near future, driving students will be able to follow the progress of driving studies in Mínum Pages in Iceland.is.

It also shortened that driving students will not have to keep a special driving study book, which is destined to get lost and forgotten, as it will soon be available in digital form. With a digital driving course book, driving students will have access to basic driving course information, as well as an overview of practical driving times, driving schools and driving tests at one location.

Basic driving information is for example when driving training commenced, name of driving instructor and number of completed driving hours. The digital driving study aims to simplify the process from application to issuing a driving licence to a greater extent, primarily for drivers' students but also for those involved in driving studies. A digital driving study book is part of a large collaboration project between the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Icelandic Transportation, Disctrict commisoners office, the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police and the Icelandic Digital Driving Learning Process from A-Ö.

The previous phases of the project were digitisation of the application for a study authorisation, confirmation of driving assessment and application for a full licence, all of which were presented during the year. Work will continue ahead on the implementation of the driving school system to enable them to electronically confirm the completion of driving schools in a digital driving study book. Work is also ongoing on preparations for electronic examination for theoretical driving tests and the aim is to be implemented in 2023.
