The District Commissioners received the Ský 2026 Information Technology Award

The District Commissioners have been awarded the Ský 2026 Information Technology Award, recognizing their outstanding contribution to the advancement of information technology in Iceland. The award was formally presented at UTmessan on 6 February 2026, one of Iceland’s largest annual events devoted to innovation, digital development, and technology excellence.

The District Commissioners have been honored with the Ský 2026 Information Technology Award for their strategic implementation of electronic and digital services that have streamlined service processes and improved public access to government services. The award was presented at UTmessan on 6 February 2026.
The digital transformation within the District Commissioners’ has included the introduction of numerous new electronic processes and solutions that have significantly influenced the delivery of public services. A wide range of services are now available on the District Commissioners’ portal at Ísland.is, either partially or fully online. These include services related to estates of deceased persons, registrations, certificates, passports, driver’s licences, criminal records, and family matters. In its evaluation, Ský noted that these developments have played a key role in bringing public services closer to citizens and strengthening the digital capabilities of the Icelandic public sector.
