Information regarding Venezuela
9th January 2026
The Directorate of Immigration has received enquiries about the situation in Venezuela and how it affects Venezuelans situated in Iceland. The Directorate is monitoring the situation and will publish updated information if necessary.

Foreign nationals who, due to cancelled flights, are unable to return home before their residence permit, visa, or 90 day visa-free stay expires must either rebook their ticket or purchase a new one.
If you are unable to leave Iceland before your permit, visa or 90 day visa-free stay expires, you may be expelled or refused entry or stay. You must keep documentation showing that it was not possible for you to find alternative means of returning home. You will need to present this documentation if a refusal of entry or stay or expulsion case is initiated when you leave Iceland.
You should not send this documentation to the Directorate of Immigration now, and you do not need to contact us. The Directorate of Immigration cannot confirm that you are allowed to remain in Iceland. If a refusal of entry or stay or expulsion case is initiated, it will be taken into account that you attempted to leave Iceland in time — but you must be able to document it.
