Safe Sports and Youth Activities This Summer

This summer, many children will take part in events and youth activities. It is vital that those involved in organizing and implementing such activities are aware of their responsibilities, can recognize signs of abuse, and know where to turn if they suspect a child has been subjected to abuse.

A collaborative group representing the Agency for Children and Families, the Directorate of Health, Home and School, the Centre for Gender Equality, the police, the Centre for Education and School Services, the Emergency Line, SAFT – Media Committee, the Icelandic Association of Local Authorities, and the Communications Counsellor for Sports and Youth Activities has compiled a helpful information letter.
The letter includes:
Educational resources on sexual and gender-based violence and harassment
Recruitment checklist
Guidelines for obtaining information from criminal records
Unified response plan for youth work
If there is suspicion of a violation against a child, always report it to 112, child protection services, and/or the police.
