Respiratory tract infections. Week 15 and 16 of 2023

27th April 2023

Rates of respiratory infections have dropped as is to be expected in the spring. Admissions to Landspitali due to respiratory infections have also gone down.

The current wave of respiratory infections seems thus to have come to an end. A few cases of confirmed Influenza are still diagnosed. Rates of confirmed cases of COVID-19 have dropped in the past weeks. Rates of scarlet fever are still well over the past years’ average, although currently, the rates are much lower compared to earlier this winter. Clinical diagnoses of sore throat have dropped. Thus, all else being equal, this will be the last issue of our report on respiratory infections this „flu season“. We ask everyone to still keep personal hygiene in mind as well as vaccinations when appropriate.

In a new report (Icelandic), the incidence of respiratory diseases in weeks 15 and 16 of 2023 is reviewed in more detail.
