The number of admitted people with respiratory virus infections at Landspitali Hospital increased last week. The number of influenza diagnoses has only rebounded, however, the number of diagnoses of COVID-19 and RSV has been steadily decreasing since the beginning of the year. The vast majority of diagnosed cases of influenza this winter have so far been of influenza A.

Both measles and mumps have recently arrived in the country. No further spread from these cases is yet foreseen. Vaccination efforts are ongoing at healthcare centers to mitigate the impact of both incidents, primarily in the capital area.

In a new summary (Icelandic), the incidence of respiratory diseases in week 7 of 2024 is reviewed in more detail.
