Prevention Day 2023 – publication of a report

Prevention Day is an annual event held in October in Icelandic primary and secondary schools. The history of the day can be traced back to 2006. but the 18th Prevention Day was celebrated in 2023.

The Directorate of Health is responsible for the project management of the Prevention Day in collaboration with the Office of the President of Iceland, the City of Reykjavík, the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland, the Scouts, the Icelandic Youth Association, Research and Analysis, Planet Youth, the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities, Samfés, Home and School and Education and Prevention - a collaboration between NGOs in Prevention (FRÆ).

The content of Prevention Day is based on research results, and students discuss questions in groups under the guidance of teachers. The main topics are protective factors and how they can contribute to well-being. Sixty primary schools and eighteen secondary schools participated in the project in 2023.

The report will be presented at an open presentation by the SAMAN group today, June 5th, at 17:00. More information on the event can be found on Facebook. Young people will read quotes from the report, but the results of the report and quotes from it were also presented at the meeting of the Náum áttum group held on May 15th.
