These guidelines are primarily intended for professionals who plan menus for groups of people, but the guidelines can also be helpful in teaching at different educational levels. In accordance with NNR 2023, the dietary reference values of many nutrients change, mainly due to changes in the methodology for calculations and reference values for energy intake for different groups.
The dietary reference values for vitamins and minerals are now given as average requirement (AI), recommended intake (RI), adequate intake (AI), provisional average requirement (Provisional AR), and upper intake (UI)—depending on the state of knowledge for each nutrient. The guidelines are based on an assessment of the intake of healthy individuals.
New revised dietary guidelines (food-based dietary guidelines) from the Directorate of Health will be published soon.
