Iceland Participates in the European Campaign Sketching Antimicrobial Resistance
16th February 2026
Iceland is participating in the European campaign Sketching AMR, which is part of the joint European initiative EU-JAMRAI-2 (Joint Action on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections 2). The initiative brings together European countries in a coordinated effort to address antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections.

The campaign uses creative and visual communication to raise awareness and improve understanding of antimicrobial resistance. Through simple illustrations and symbols, antimicrobial resistance is made more visible and accessible to the public. The artworks are developed from a One Health perspective, highlighting the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health and the shared responsibility to act against antimicrobial resistance.
The illustrated album features 30 works by 30 artists from 30 countries, with Hugleikur Dagsson representing Iceland. The artists were invited to bridge art and science by giving visual form, colour, and emotion to one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time - antimicrobial resistance. The illustrations have been shared through the social media channels of the Directorate of Health and the Chief Epidemiologist.
The campaign is currently presented as a travelling street exhibition, moving between European cities, starting in Vienna, Warsaw, and Brussels. Printed copies of the album will also be available in Iceland. Those interested in obtaining a copy are encouraged to get in touch at svl@landlaeknir.is.
