Changes in the Role of the Medical Director of Health

Willum Þór Þórsson, Minister of Health, has accepted Alma D. Möller's request to step down from her position as Medical Director of Health. Alma’s resignation takes effect on December 10, 2024.

Alma D. Möller has served as Medical Director of Health since 2018. Following her election to parliament in the recent elections, she requested to be relieved of her duties. Alma had been on leave since late October in preparation for the elections.

To ensure continuity, the Minister of Health has appointed Guðrún Aspelund, Chief Epidemiologist since 2022, to temporarily assume the role of Medical Director of Health. Guðrún will hold this position from December 10, 2024, to January 31, 2025, while continuing her duties as Chief Epidemiologist.

The position of Medical Director of Health will be advertised in the near future.
