17th December 2024
A new Master's program in Wellbeing Science is one of 19 projects that has received a grant from the University Cooperation Fund in Iceland, amounting to 420,000 Euros. This Master's program is a collaboration between the University of Surrey, the University of Reykjavík, the University of Iceland, the University of Akureyri, and the Directorate of Health in Iceland. Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, the Minister of Universities and Innovation, presented the grant allocation.
A wellbeing economy differs from the traditional approach to the economy, which is based on purely economic metrics. Instead, prosperity and quality of life are assessed based on numerous social, environmental, and economic factors.
"This new master’s in Wellbeing Science is a great opportunity to train the next generation of leaders in the public, private, and third sectors. We need a new economy that pursues human and ecological wellbeing in a sustainable manner: to achieve this, we need new skills and new expertise. With its focus on wellbeing, Iceland is leading the world in this transformative revolution," says Lorenzo Fioramonti, professor of Surrey University and former Minister of Education in Italy.
