Digital Health hosted an event at Iceland Innovation Week today in the main hall at Gróska. We thank everyone who attended and chatted with us after the meeting. We are excited about what's to come and for continued conversations.

The theme of the meeting was “New approach, new opportunities” and the agenda was packed, as the task at hand is immense.

Sigurður Þórarinsson, Director of Digital Health, kicked things off with a clear message: the public and healthcare professionals should experience the system as a single, continuous whole — and collaboration with institutions and the innovation community is crucial for this. This will be the mission of Digital Health.

Birna Íris Jónsdóttir, Director of Digital Iceland, spoke about My Health on Ísland.is, an exciting project where healthcare services and information will be consolidated in one place, another step towards making as many public services as possible accessible in one place, on the web and in an app.

Some of Digital Health's staff then came up, one by one, and talked about their projects and priorities:

Jóhannes Stefánsson discussed the work on clear rules for the security and quality of digital solutions in healthcare services.

Sverrir Sigmundarson presented the development process at Digital Health, which aims for better quality, increased predictability, and faster development.

Helga Margrét Clark talked about the status and future of telehealth services, where an updated policy and revised regulations are in the final stages.

Ólafur Kristján Ragnarsson spoke about electronic record keeping in ambulance services, where the implementation of a new solution is well underway across the country, replacing pen and paper.

Sunna Brá Stefánsdóttir introduced the central medication card, which provides a better overview and increases safety in prescribing and dispensing medicines.

Gunnar Thorarensen, an anaesthetist and intensive care physician, closed the meeting with his vision for the future: The opportunities are there, but the benefits will only materialise when Digital Health, the innovation community, and healthcare professionals join forces and use technology to create the healthcare system of the future.

The moderator was Guðmundur Jóhannsson from Digital Health and Digital Iceland, and the meeting was concluded at 10:30 on the dot.
