Release of lumpfish caught in cod nets
The Directorate of Fisheries would like to emphasize that vessels engaged in gillnet fishing, other than lumpfish fishing with a special license from the Directorate of Fisheries, are obliged to release all live lumpfish in nets when they are pulled.
The Directorate of Fisheries will respond if vessels are repeatedly found to be landing an abnormal amount of lumpfish, as it is clear that most of the lumpfish is still alive in cod nets that are pulled in on a regular basis.
