Lumpfish as bycatch
The Directorate of Fisheries reminds that vessels that engage in net fishing, other than lumpfish fishing, must release all live lumpfish from the nets when they are towed.
We therefore encourage the crews of fishing vessels to respect the provisions in 1st paragraph of 3rd article in regulation on utilization of catches and by-products.
The Directorate of Fisheries will react if ships repeatedly land an abnormal amount of lumpfish, as it is clear that most of the lumpfish is alive in nets that are towed in a regular manner.
