Today, October 4th, is the eighteenth Prevention Day. On this occasion, a seminar titled Considering Well-being and Protective Factors in the Lives of Children and Youth is being held. The seminar starts at 10:30 and will be streamed through the Prevention Day website, and it can also be accessed here on the Directorate of Health's website.
The agenda for the seminar:
The headmaster of Borgarholtsskóli welcomes the guests.
Meeting chair - Dóra Guðrún Guðmundsdóttir, the Director of the Public Health Division at the Directorate of Health
The President of Iceland, Guðni Th. Johannesson
The Medical Director of Health, Alma D. Möller
City Mayor, Dagur B. Eggertsson
Margrét Lilja Guðmundsdóttir, Chief Knowledge Officer at Planet Youth: What works in the lives of children and youth
Staff and students from Borgarholtsskóli will talk about the health promotion week and the implementation of the Prevention Day program last year.
All primary and upper secondary schools can register to participate in the Prevention Day program and get access to the material aimed at youth in 9th grade in primary schools and students attending their first year in upper secondary schools. Emphasis is placed on protective factors against risky behaviour: having quality time with the family, participating in organized sports and leisure activities, and allowing the brain to mature. It is assumed that schools will do the projects between October 4th and 20th. Students can participate in a prize game presented on the Prevention Day website. The requirement for participation is that they are students in the 9th grade of primary school or students in their first year of upper secondary school and that their school is participating in the Prevention Day program.
Municipalities are encouraged to put prevention on the agenda in October. Recently, many municipalities have organized a prevention program in October in cooperation with various parties, associations, and institutions in their community. Parents are also incentivised to participate and revive good parental partnerships this year, but schools and local authorities can provide them with good support.
