Guidelines for veterinarians published

The Icelandic Radiation Safety Authority has published new guidlines: The use of mobile veterinary x-ray equipment.

The main contents of the publication are instructions on how to ensure the protection of personnel and others from radiation during the use of portable veterinary x-ray equipment. Requirements for registration, instructions, facilities, radiation protection and x-ray machines are discussed.

Also discussed is the procedure of how to perform the examination the x-ray tube and shortly the x-ray tube and corresponding radiation from the tube and radiation to the staff involved in the examinations.

The use of x-ray equipment in veterinary medicine is on the rise and animals are imaged in different situations, which can be a challenge when it is necessary to ensure appropriate radiation protection.
