What to avoid in the network? (in progress)

The navigation system (service categories) helps users to get to know the content that is shared on Ísland.is. That content is growing rapidly and therefore it is important that everyone considers how this content is used and aggregated. Therefore it is good to consider caution

  • to publish material that is too similar to the one already available. It is a good rule to first be clear about what is already linked and accessible in the network. It is often better to review older material than to add a new article, even if it is quicker.

  • to think that all content belongs in the network. Sometimes the nature of the content is that it belongs better on the website of an organisation (as e.g. Organization Subpage) than as an article within the network. If the content has only a vague connection to direct services to the public, e.g. it is more likely that it belongs only on the website of an organisation.
