If someone is deprived of legal competence, what happens next?

If a person is deprived of their legal competence, financial competence or both by court order, the legal competence shall be transferred to a District Commissioner who appoints a legal guardian.

The person deprived of legal competence may request that a particular person be appointed as a legal guardian, if not, the legal guardian will be chosen in consultation with the person not possessing legal competence. The appointed legal guardian is usually a practising lawyer.

Further information on legal guardians can be found here.
