Electronic IDs on mobile phones are valid for 5 years. Users are sent a text message when their electronic IDs are about to expire and instructed to go to a service point to renew them.

Please note that you must show up with a valid ID at service points, e.g. passport, driver's license (not digital) or Icelandic identity card
