Assistance and Access to Grindavík
Access
From February 20, there is no need to apply for admission to Grindavik.
Keys to properties
Owners are encouraged to retrieve unclaimed keys to their properties, which will be handed out at the Kvikan in Grindavik. Opening hours are from 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM from Monday, April 29th, until Friday, June 3rd. It will also be open on May 1st (between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM).
After that time has passed, unclaimed keys can be retrieved at the service center of Grindavíkurbær located in the Tollhouse until June 1st. After that time, unclaimed keys will be transferred to special storage.
If owners cannot retrieve the keys themselves, they must present a written authorization in order for someone else to retrieve them on their behalf.
Civil defense authorities reiterate that surveillance of properties due to measures for property preservation, initiated at the beginning of 2024 to prevent serious frost damage to properties, has concluded. Should evacuation become necessary due to further seismic activity or volcanic eruptions, such surveillance will continue to be maintained by property owners, as has been previously practiced.
