B.Sc. in Agricultural Science is a 3 year program of study which aims to give students a basic education in applied biology and agriculture. Students obtain a solid basis in the natural sciences upon which more applied subjects in agriculture are added, with a special emphasis on Icelandic agriculture and sustainable use of natural resources for agricultural production.

After completion of their studies in Agricultural Science students should have obtained knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and applied foundations of agriculture in the northern environment and the skills to apply the acquired knowledge within the field of agriculture and related occupation.

Students that graduate from this Programme are prepared for general jobs in the Agricultural Advisory Service, in the agricultural industry and for running their own farms. In addition, students should have acquired the basic scientific skills in the field of biology and agricultural science to be able to take part in research projects, enter post graduate studies and seek scientific knowledge on their own.

Icelandic matriculation examination (studentsprof: school leaving examination after four years of secondary school) or another secondary examination which the University board regards as equivalent. Additionally, it is recommended for students to have skills equivalent to: 2nd proficiency level in natural sciences, i.e. chemistry, physics, biology, and geology, 3rd proficiency level in English, especially regarding reading academic texts, and 2nd proficiency level in mathematics, particularly general computational methods in algebra and equations.

A total of 180 ECTS credits are required for a Bachelor of Science degree. The program is structured as a three-year course, with 60 ECTS credits per year. It is mandatory to complete all first-year courses before commencing the third year. In the Bachelor of Science program in Agricultural Sciences, there are 146 ECTS credits in core courses, 18 ECTS credits in compulsory electives, and 16 ECTS credits in other electives. Students complete the program with a 10 ECTS credit final project and a Bachelor's thesis.

The Agricultural Sciences program covers the economic, biological, and technical aspects of animal husbandry and land utilization. Various aspects of agricultural science are discussed, including soil cultivation, fodder and feeding, genetics, animal biology, equipment, and animal welfare, in addition to basic natural sciences such as chemistry and biology.
